Rugby

It was back on the road today, but not literally.

Plan A had been to get back to Tbilisi by minibus, the way I came. I decided another 5.5 hour journey like that was beyond me, and flying would be better.

It is a 30 minute flight.

I had to hang around Zvartnots International for a couple of hours, but it was a pleasure. It is a lovely airport. Bright, clean, spacious, stylish, comfortable, efficient - built for travellers and not as a shopping mall.

The flight was interesting. Aircompany Armenia as a franchise for Georgian Airways. Moscow to Tbilisi via Yerevan. A mixed bunch on board. Some got off at Yerevan. We got on.

More fun when I arrived. I have a hotel room, as I am only here for a night. It is a small place called 5 Rooms. The owner greeted me and asked me where I am from… Well, he is a former captain of the Georgian rugby team and has played against Scotland.

Next, two glasses of his homemade wine (Kakheti), as we chewed the fat for a while.

The Blip is just a shot from the airport during an idle moment. The Extra is the start of my dinner - kharcho. It is walnut soup with beef. Delicious, especially when trying to recover from two generous glasses of wine on an empty stomach.
