No more Cook's Tours

The company started out with charabancs to teetotal religious meetings in the North of England. Now England's oldest high street travel agency is gone for good. I snapped this while the building still bears the company name.

Excellent film in Stroud: Blinded by the Light. From the director of Bend it like Beckham comes a Springsteen-musical about a boy in Luton in the 1980s, struggling to escape the shackles of his Pakistani father and family, and the insidious racism of the National Front that was so.prevalent in Thatcher's Britain(I was there: no, not in Luton but living in a largely Bengali estate in London's Tower Hamlets. The white supremacists were never far from the surface).

Catch the film if you can. You're not too old, though you might just be too young to remember...
