Life in Sunny Dubai

Boxing Day

(28/12/19)

We went out to the nurseries in Warsan today, and I'm so pleased we did as the plants there are so much cheaper than anywhere else! I had promised G I'd get her bougainvillaea for her balcony as hers died in the summer.

The garden centres had loads of cool plants to see, so it was hard to stay focussed and stick with the plan but we managed! We got six bougainvillaea pots of various colours, an ivy and a fresh mint plant. Bringing them all up to the flat required several trips, but it didn't take too long.

There was time to chill before we headed out again, this time to meet up with our friends Suguna and Miriam who are celebrating Christmas in Dubai. We headed to Al Seef as it is a part of Dubai that we all love. It was incredible to get up to the main precinct at just the time that the violinist in the bubble started playing. You couldn't have planned that if you'd tried! We stopped and appreciated her talent. Then wended our way towards the newer section.

We were specifically looking for a Lebanese restaurant (961LB). Again, we couldn't have planned this but it just so happened that where we sat to eat is where they launched the fireworks from! The 25th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival started today, and the fireworks are one of the big attractions of it. I have never been so close to fireworks!

We moved on to Chapters in Zabeel House for Aperol spritzers only to find that this bar closes at 9 pm (!!!???) and that Zabeel House has been taken over by the Hilton and is in a period of transition.

We dropped our friends back to their hotel and got invited to see it on the inside. Rove Hotels are a new brand, I believe, local to us. They are very relaxed and funky and celebrate the area they are situated in, Satwa in the case of this one...

It's been a nice and relaxed Boxing Day!
