Storm Ciara

Well it certainly came, all night and most of the morning.
The very worst seemed to be when we set off to church. Soaked just walking from the car at the church gate to the door. The path was a river with water pouring out of the wall and it was the same coming out of the school above.
During the vicar’s sermon he took pause when it sounded like thunder outside, whether it was thunder or just the strength of the wind around the building I don’t know.
It has eased now with even some sun this afternoon but still very windy. The internet is full of photos of local paths and roads inundated. The Malt Shovel by Harden Beck in the village has closed and the roads out to Goit Stock caravan park alongside the beck are awash. I suppose I could have gone out to photograph some of these places but the general consensus is to stay put if you don’t have to go out.
The small flower bed in the front garden is a mini pond (poor Eda’s rose) and the bed with crocus shown yesterday is also standing in water. The last time this happened was 2015 when we had the Boxing Day floods along the Aire Valley and in many other areas of the country. We’ve got off lightly but I’m sure there are others sadly suffering as a result of this storm.

My blip is the hyacinths in front of the rain spattered kitchen window, no sun illuminating them this morning. Stay dry and safe if you can UK blippers
