The secret garden

This is the mysterious tropical garden I mentioned yesterday, buried in the chirimoya orchards that fill the big green hole in the middle of Almuñecar. When we talked about this with Bea during our Spanish lesson today, she said it used to be a simple cortijo which had been renovated beyond reason. And then abandoned. Strange, it's not even on a road.

She also told us that the previous mayor of Almuñecar, renowned for his corruption although none of the many court cases have ended in convictions, had a plan to turn this area of orchards into a massive marina, Marbella-style, by letting the sea in and building apartment complexes round it. Bonkers. Thank goodness it didn't get the go-ahead. He is no longer the mayor, but is still making waves.
