All about the growing

All day pretty much, we have spent potting on tiny seedlings into bigger pots - whatever size I could find. Mollie did this job in the sun, starting with a couple of small basil plants she has been nurturing in her bedroom, and then going on to the tomatos I didnt do yesterday. We also have a tray full of cumin, coriander and basil seedlings. She potted quite a few of these into toilet rolls, and I put some cumin into the plastic trays the cherry tomatoes come in from the shops.

I decided to take a chance with 3 tomatoes in a grow bag, and 2 courgette plants in another one. They are very sheltered but I am now hoping for no more frosts. I will put the cloche over the toms tonight. I popped to Homebase for more compost and a new switch for the shower, which Henry wired in. So thankfully we only had half a day without a working shower, and all survived!

After lunch Jon, Henry,Mollie and I went to the allotment. No digging, but we did do some planting. My sweetcorn ( which are tiny, but were not getting any bigger at home) and runner beans, plus a big tub of squashed in climbing french beans. They may not survive, but were dying anyway. I have more to plant and more seeds. Again, I hope no more very cold spells, or these will all die. The potatoes I notice, had gone a bit black on the tips, so must have been caught in the week.

Henry and I did a bit of allotment gymnastics, but my wrist and arthritic hands will not let me do handstand any more. It's quite sad, as I am sure the rest of my body would be up to it. So a headstand was as much as I could do. Henry also had a go! ( see extra)

I caught the sun on my back because I'd taken the cream with me, intending to get someone to put it on the bits I couldn't reach, but got carried away with my planting. I'm pleased with our little plot. Jon and Henry built a fantastic cover for the sweetcorn, to stop the birds etc, and Mollie worked solidly watering everything. A great team effort.

We had pie and mash for dinner, courtesy of Jon and Morrisons and now I'm going to have an early bath as I feel shattered. May be something to do with waking at 6 this morning.
