Lockdown Day 54 - Waltham St Lawrence

After a break yesterday I was back on my bike early this morning. I left at about 645 and enjoyed a beautiful ride over to the nearby village of Waltham St Lawrence.

It’s a beautiful place and The Bell is a very popular pub in the area. I was pleased to see that it was doing a takeaway menu - food on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and drinks every day. In 1608 the building was bequeathed to the village for the benefit of the poor by Ralph Newbery. Trustees in the village administer the bequest and rent from the building funds local charities.

There’s a pretty church and the flowers on the lychgate I think might be left over from the VE Day celebrations a week ago. What was once a post office is now a home. It’s sad that the post office is closed, but I like that the name is kept as well as the post box from the reign of King George.

My ride was 11.19 kms (6.95 miles). I was out for an hour but I also stopped to take pictures!
