Life's Little Moments

Splish Splash

One of the best things you can do for your backyard birds is to provide water year-round.  At times like this in NJ when we haven't had rain in weeks and the temps are in the high 80's, the birds desperately need water for both drinking and keeping their feathers clean.  I have two baths and a fountain and all are very popular this time of year.  Late afternoon is a favorite time for many of the birds to have a bit of a splash, most in one of the baths but the cardinals always go for the bubbling fountain.  This male is molting and is also losing some of his head feathers so he's not looking his best.  Even so, he's a snazzy bird, isn't he? Right after he left, one of the juvenile cardinals came in to bathe, followed by Mama Bluebird, a sparrow, and one of the robins.

I had my teeth cleaned this morning and it wasn't terrible.  Coming from me that is high praise indeed as I have a deep and abiding fear of the dentist and especially hate having my teeth cleaned.  Considering I was several months late in getting this done, it went remarkably well.  I have to get a couple of fillings repaired next week, but that will be easy.  Glad to have that behind me.  And glad to say that all precautions were taken by the staff to keep patients and staff safe.

I'm crushed to see what is happening in some of the western and southern states in my country.  I keep wondering why these governors are so resistant to things like mandatory masks.  Instead, some of those states are heading to the same horrific place that my area was in 2 short months ago with hospitals full and infection rates racing up.  It just makes me so, so sad.

So, on that note, please do all that you can to keep yourself and those around you safe.  Be kind.  Be loving (with others as well as yourself.)
