Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

A milestone?

Today was sort of half decent weather, though a deceptively chilly wind, especially off the sea. Which is where we went - along the coast to Port Seton.

Archie hates the car, because he gets sick, always has. We hoped he’d grow out of it, but he’s now 6. It really cramps our style, as we’d nip off much more often for day trips, but can’t. However, we strapped him in his harness (That look! Extra 1) and I sat in the back with him. Over the top, you may say, but it’s easier to stick his head in a poo bag and save any mess in the car when I’m sitting right beside him.

He spent the whole outward journey glaring at me, accusingly. But he wasn’t sick. And anyway, as soon as he’s out he skips around and immediately forgets his ordeal, even if he’s been as sick as, well - a dog.

We walked along part of the John Muir Way, to the wee harbour, and then went further along than we’ve ever been. We could have walked all the way to Dunbar, but not today... That brisk sea breeze was fresh, very fresh. We’ve had excellent fish and chips on more than one occasion there, but it would not have been pleasant to sit and eat today. There was a tempting little seating area where we parked. But we weren’t tempted. (Extra 2)

Back home, and he made it! He wasn’t sick! In fact, he was much more relaxed, he lay in my lap and dozed. Could this be a new phase? Oh, we’d like that!
