Allotment

This is the allotment next to mine, and accounts for the many weeds we spend so much of our time trying to combat. Although I think it is rather pretty with just wild flowers. There was a young lad trying to have a go with it earlier in the year, but he has clearly given up. I went down at about 5 for an hour to pick beans a few courgettes and even a couple of apples. Still missing a lot of runner beans which are ending up too big, and thus tough and inedible. Still loads more french beans, which I love so will blanch and freeze at the weekend. We are still trying to make our way through the 3 courgettes that grew to marrow size while we were away. One down, 2 to go!

The best bit about an allotment for me, is digging up the potatoes. I think most growers in the uk will agree with me, it's like digging up treasure - you are never quite sure how many, or how big they are going to be - or if you are going to accidentally spear one with your fork! I dug up one short row this evening, with some success. However, I see them as genuinely free food, as they were plants grown from last years potatoes that had accidentally been left in the ground. I just moved the plants when they were small into a row. So i didnt even need to buy seed potatoes. I've got another row like that to dig up. Food for free, the best kind!

That was this evening, but during the much cooler day than we have had all week, in fact we had a heavy sea mist which I didn't mind, I went to Lidl with Mollie. After the weekly shop done, I went along for a chat with my neighbour, who has an adorable one year old called Stanley. We had a coffee and long chat.

After lunch, I drove to Sheringham to see Heather, and took the card I had made, plus some flowers as a get well soon present. She looked very well and hopefully will have a good break recovering from her op and be back at work in September.

Then to tesco for a few bits, then on to Cromer where I queued for ages for petrol as the main coast road was solid as cars tried to get through the high street. It always backs up there. Then a quick stop at the coop for gin and chocolate, then home.

A chat to mum tonight then bed.

I do love having a day off!
