The 'deer' grazing beside Castle Lane, Epney

I drive this road regularly but had never seen deer in this field as we passed a gateway. I thought I would pull up as I might not see them again. I needed to reverse about fifty backs back to a place I could pull in safely, but luckily there was no traffic.

When I stood just outside the gate I realised they were wooden sculptures and that one of them had blown over, rather than being designed to lie down. I expect they were originally positioned as if they were rutting opposite each other.

I was rather impressed and thought that the degree of fading producing the bleached wood must mean they had been there for some time. If I hadn't been in a rush I would have clambered over the gate and gone closer to see how they'd been made.
