Marjorie's ramblings

Creeping up on lunch

It was a lovely morning so I drove the short distance to  Simonburn and had a (very) short walk in the wood. It mainly consists of conifers but there are a few beech trees. There is a stream which was in spate today.

After a while, I started to spot the tiny fungi. Here is an example of the candle snuff fungus, Xylaria hypoxylon. I thought its name was because it looks like candlesnuff, but it is actually bioluminescent because is contains phosphorus. How amazing is that?

After the rain, the slug population was very evident. Did you spot the two slugs in my picture (and the tiny insect)?

Arth has been more comfortable today so perhaps the new exercises are helping. It's a relief.

We watched last night's bake off and episode 4 of All Creatures. Happy, undemanding viewing, although we are now sad to see the contestants go. We have become attached to them.

Maureen was able to walk up and down some stairs in the hospital so the physios have deemed her fit to discharge. She found out that this did not mean that the doctors are ready to discharge her which was a disappointment. She is doing very well.
