Peover Hall

This was the first place we came for a walk after the first lockdown ended, Good footpaths, not many people, and plenty of space to maintain good social distancing. We’re still applying the 2+ metre rule, although from observation I think we are in a minority.

The flag atop the church is flying at half mast, I presume out of respect for the recently deceased owner of the estate, Randle Brooks. He restored the hall and from the obits I have read was a much respected local figure.

The Hall has an interesting history - originally the home of the Mainwaring family, and during the Second World War the HQ of General George Patton. Harry Brooks bought the estate in 1958, as well as the Tatton estates (with Tatton Park itself being acquired by the National Trust). The family are one of the big north- west landowners.
