Nicky and her Nikon

Christmas Eve

The weather finally turned cold today, but it was sunny and bright all day. Meriel says it has snowed at her home today so I think it is cold throughout the UK.

I made the cranberry sauce this morning, and then made soup for lunch while Gavin went to pick up the Christmas meat order and some last minute stuff from Waitrose. Thankfully there were no queues and it was not too busy, but many items were also out of stock - no more panettone!

It still does not feel like Christmas despite being Christmas Eve. I think this horrible year has just sucked the life out of everything and it is hard to feel festive and in a jubilant mood when we are living under these pandemic conditions. A very positive step today was that the EU and the UK have finally reached a post Brexit trade deal, at the 11th hour! No matter how much Boris is disliked by many people I do feel very sorry for the man, he has been working around the clock with the winter Covid outbreak and the Brexit trade deal, I bet he is not having much of a Christmas this year.

I have set the dining room table for Christmas lunch and so took a photo of some of the table decorations. Now I must go make the trifle which we will eat tomorrow. Tonight it is usually smoked salmon on blinis with bubbly but as we are getting a take away supper we have decided to skip the salmon blinis as it will be too much - we will have them tomorrow. It is now time to open the bubbly and put the carols on!

Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas!
