Those old grey stones

Bit of a damp, dull day today so I had to force myself out for a walk after lunch. I wandered round the local roads and ended up at McCaig's Tower, where the sun came out for a while. Right on cue the 'Lord of the Isles' chugged out, lit up in the sun, but I put that on as an extra yesterday so I picked this bit of architecture instead.

There are many lovely buildings in Oban, and this is no exception. It was originally built as a private home in 1885 by diamond mine magnate Hugh Cowan; it was named it after the Kimberley diamond mine in South Africa where he made his fortune. It later became Oban’s maternity hospital, then the Kimberley Hotel, now Greystones, a 'luxury boutique B&B'. Must be good to stay there - a quiet location with amazing views. It's unlikely that we'll ever stay there - as well as being a touch on the expensive side it's only a few hundred yards from our house. It has a lovely stained glass window underneath that flat-topped dormer.

Oh OK then - I'll post the 'Lord of the Isles' as an extra for the second day running!
