The Great Train Robbery

The Grey Fox was a
legend in his own time, but
lived a life of crime

~ carliewired

This very large mural in our downtown documents the robbing of the Canadian Pacific Railway by Billy Miner ("Grey Fox") and his gang. The mural was created in 2010 by Alex Moir-Porteous. I am sorry to see it's getting a bit tattered.

The story of Billy Miner is a fascinating one. I will leave it to the Canadian Encyclopedia to tell the story in detail. https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/william-miner

Suffice it to say he lived in our area for a short time, gaining a reputation as a gentleman rancher. His name lives on in books, a movie and even a splendid dessert in a chain restaurant.
