Bird table at sunset

Here is Mr hazelh's fabulous bird table, now painted, positioned, stocked with feed, and ready for visitors. He finished it this morning while I applied further coats of oil to our garden furniture and Paddy finished off a couple of snagging jobs from last Sunday. (Before picture: 19th July 2020.)

This afternoon I moved the compost from our big (old) compost barrel to the compost box, layering it with manure as supplied by Dougal and his two companions earlier in the week. Then it was time to water the whole garden - back and front - again. I must say that life will be a lot easier when it rains again/our lawn seed has germinated.

Last night I cracked painsomnia. This is how: drink 250ml of white wine; massage your joints; take two paracetamol when you get into bed; take another two paracetamol when you wake up in pain 4 hours later; sleep happily until it's time to get up.

In other news, this morning we planned the end of our summer cycling holiday so that Paddy and Caitlin will meet us for the final weekend in the highlands. The idea is that they'll come in their car with our old bike rack (from the days that we had our own car) so that we can all return home together. After booking the hotel, we tested the bike rack on the car. With a bit of jiggery pokery, it fits fine. There is a problem, however: my (newish) bike lacks a cross bar and does not fit on the rack. Aaargh!

Exercise today: lots of garden pottering.
