Little Meerkat Ferns

With an eye to the main chance and being aware of the May holiday weather forecast, I rode forth in the sun at 6 am.
All was quiet with less traffic than usual for a Monday morning and only one or two stalwarts with cameras and tripods on the Meadows recording the cherry blossom.

On a later excursion to the shops I met a Merry Widow by chance out and about on a book purchasing expedition. We had a chat before hypothermia forced us on our Merry Widow ways. It is still really cold for May- 6° feeling like 1° is ridiculous.

Now as I look out of a rain dropped window to a view of puddles and dripping trees, I try to remember when we last had a day so dismal and wet.
The heating is on and so are my slippers.

Last autumn the gardeners drastically cut back the ferns outside the Dower house leaving brown stumps which until now looked completely dead. However life has returned and baby ferns like families of meerkats have appeared.
