Life's Little Moments

AOG Orb Weaving Team

In case you were wondering, we are definitely going to be hosting the AOG again this summer.  For those who aren't "in the know" this is the Alternative Olympic Games which features any of natures many and varied creatures doing interesting things.  This is where you get to let you imagination run completely wild, have fun, and just enjoy whatever nature brings your way.

To whet your appetitive (and get the creative juices flowing) today I am featuring the newly minted Furrow Orb team.  Right now they are barely the size of a grain of sand but in short order they will be big enough to spin their own beautiful webs.  You can see them already planning their strategy and resting up for the big events.

If you want to join in on the fun, stay tuned to this space and feel free to start interviewing some of your local teams ahead of the Games.  For the lead-up period, just tag anything you post with #aogpre

Now, I have to ask for some help because this is way too big for just one journalist to cover, especially one who is a bit the worse for the wear at the moment.  So, drop a note below if you would like to volunteer to join as an international judge.  Nothing much really required other than to drop by as many entries as you can during the Games and award medals to whomever you feel has earned them.  And, as been the case historically (dating back to the infamous time when the AOG officials sanctioned team darling Mimsy) we will rely on both our judges and all local intrepid journalists to cover the twists and turns that occur during the Games.

Official AOG dates will coincide with the International Olympic Games.  Events will be entirely of our own creating...

Side note:  these are a freshly "hatched" cluster of Furrow Orb Weavers who are being very still in the hot sun today.  I suspect they will be just fine and tonight Mama will be around to guard them against anything that might find them delectable. These very common spiders frequently spin their beautiful webs on the sides of houses and are usually seen only after dark.

It's hot, hot, hot here today.  The real-feel temp was already push high 90's by 9 so I skipped the kayak today.  Just too darned hot.  One more day of this heat and then we get a break.  And thankfully, the PNC got a bit of a break from the "heat dome" that's been sitting over British Columbia and Washington.

Stay cool.  And don't let your chocolate melt!
