Alnwick

Today started well. At last I feel less tired. We woke later too, which is unlike us so I think at last we are relaxing.

I made us a picnic in case we were still out at lunchtime and then we drove to Alnwick. I took the distant photo of this very famous castle - obviously made famous by the Harry Potter films - from a conveniently positioned lay by. Then we drove a short distance up the same road and parked right by the castle where it was free to park amazingly.

We had timed it perfectly for coffee and walked up the high street to Barter Books. The buildings are all made of large blocks of that lovely grey stone, weathered by the years. It's like walking through a free open air museum. We had coffee then began a lengthy browse around the 300,000 plus books in this second hand book shop set in an old railway station. I do love anything with character. We bought a few books including one each that we had gone looking for specifically and one extra for Josh to help with his studies. So a satisfying day.

We walked back through the high street dipping into a handful of shops then back to the car and that handy lay by where we ate our picnic, with that lovely view of the castle.

Drove home via the small roads and stopped at Seahouses for a wander. We might go back. We may take a boat trip to the Faroe Islands but it depends on cost and weather. As we were heading back to the car I got the beginnings of a migraine - flashing lights. So annoying. I took 2 ibuprofen in the hope that it would stop it from becoming too debilitating. Which worked. So now I just have a headache.

Had a catch up with mum on facetime and now watching BBC 2 quizzes. Was quite excited to get a question right in only connect ( the 0 eg London one) and for the right reason not just a guess!! But that was the only one. Let's see how we'll I do in UC!
