Second Sunday in Advent

We missed the first Sunday in Advent last week as we had family staying and snow!

Today we lit two candles on the Advent Crown. The first one from last week represents the Patriarchs, Abraham, Moses etc and the second one, lit for the first time today represents  the Prophets. What we all know it represents is that there are only two Sundays left before Christmas!

Chris has returned to church to finish putting the Nativity crib up outside. With the help of the other church warden they put the framework up yesterday morning in the pouring rain. He came home as I was off to singing, soaked to the skin and heading for a hot shower.

The lovely version of While Shepherds Watched their flocks by Night we sang yesterday known as Sweet Chiming Bells, was performed at the Maddie Prior and the Carnival Band concert last night. It is apparently one of many ‘pub’ carols mainly originating in the South Pennines, in Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The whole concert was excellent. The three men who play a selection of instruments including period bag pipes and horns, have really great voices and the whole ensemble blend together beautifully, singing folk and traditional songs as well as tongue in cheek updates. Glad we went it really started the Christmas season off week for us.

*News from London - Moulin Rouge performances were cancelled for Saturday and Sunday this weekend (we went Thursday evening) due to Covid cases in cast members. One of Grace’s friends had tickets for Saturday night so we were pretty lucky again!
