The Reunion

We had to be up and out early today, well not too early, but definitely earlier than we are becoming used to.  We headed south, down the A1 though appalling weather, and with no sense of daylight – it was so dark and gloomy.  We stopped off to pick up lunch which I had ordered, and continued on our way to York to visit TT’s mum in her new abode.  The first time we have seen her in person since September 2020.

She moved during lockdown earlier this year and we have not been able to visit for one reason or another – mostly related to covid.  We got to within yards of her address, but just couldn’t find the right street – however we gave up on the satnav and I just google mapped it and we worked it out quite easily.  Anyway, after an otherwise smooth journey we arrived and Grandma was there to meet us.

It was lovely to see her after so long, and also to see her lovely new apartment – with views of the river and trees with a couple of resident squirrels.  Christmas presents were exchanged, tea was drunk, lunch was eaten and there was much chatting.  After lunch it looked like the sun was breaking through, so we three went for a  walk by the river and park but then had to make a detour due to flood prevention works.  That took on a slightly longer route, but we got back to where we needed to be ok.  It was then back to Grandma’s for more chat, tea, mince pies, shortbread and Christmas cake.

All too soon it was time for us to depart and for the long drive home.  Thankfully the journey was very smooth and the weather was much improved from earlier.  We have spent a lot of today just  sitting down, but we were all weary when we got home.  Somehow I managed to stay awake for the first of the Royal Institution Christmas lectures with JVT, and finished my backblipping – which means I have filled in a gap from the summer!

I didn’t take many pictures today, so here is the reunion of three generations.  The extra is the modern-day guardians statue dressed up as shepherds.  There were also sheep in the tree.
