What's in a Name?

Galanthus 'Diggory'.   Well, it might be!   It has most of the required characteristics but the shape of the 'lampshade' petals is not quite right.   I only acquired it last year, from friends who run a small bulb nursery in South Wales.   Maybe next year it will be stronger and the flower true to type.   It's a very fine snowdrop anyway, large flowered and with these wonderfully textured petals.    It's named after the late son of a friend in Norfolk.

Another decent sort of day.   Some sunshine and mild with it.   I got stuck on indoor jobs, in particular clearing and cleaning the back porch ready for some new shelving I've ordered.   It's where I grow the Achimenes and their relatives.   These did so well last year that I decided to improve the way I display them .... well to give them more space at least!   Wider and taller, these units also have mesh shelves which will let more light through to the lower levels.

Meg and I hit the beach for a while, stones were chased, then wandered through town to the late collection post box - an Achimenes order to post.   Heading back home the sun was making a brief appearance out over the sea so we took the longer route home to see the sunset and had the good fortune to spot C and Meg 2 out on the sands at low tide.   So we joined them for a few minutes .... and more stones were chased!   As Meg also chose to lie down in a rock pool she needed showering when we got home.   All in a day's work.
