An ordinary life....

Let sleeping dogs lie...

David was up and out with Lola for her morning moor walk (and back again) before Ele, Kenny and I got downstairs.

Once we were all down, we enjoyed a leisurely brunch and coffee then Kenny and David went off to investigate the loft on the landing, as there's some staining on the ceiling in the small spare bedroom, which we think may be caused by water getting under a loose roof tile or possibly coming in the skylight in the loft.

Now there are three lofts in this house.

The main one is located through a hatch in the wee hall outside the studio.  It's fully floored and provides a very organised space to store the usual things stored in lofts.

The second loft hatch is in Alan's team's kitchen and that loft has a hot water tank and nothing much else.

The third loft, the one being investigated today, has it's hatch on the ceiling above the landing, and not being good with heights, David has never investigated it (he once got stuck in the loft in our very first house not long after we got married.  He'd gone up a stepladder that wasn't quite tall enough and he'd hauled himself up off it and into the loft.  Unfortunately he didn't fancy the gap between him and the ladder on the way back down!  lol)  so he felt it might be better if Kenny investigated the loft to have Kenny there for moral support :-)

Kenny is a DIY fanatic.  In fact our nickname for him is Mr Bricolage  as on our many holidays in France, his first place to visit was always a DIY store!  Anyway, a long career as a surveyor and Director in the building trade means he is our go to person for advice and guidance on all things house / building related (and given that our house is 122 years old we call on his advice a lot! :-)

So off they went with the ladder, up to the landing.  I hovered downstairs hoping to get a hilarious blip of legs dangling from the hatch or a foot coming through the ceiling, but actually it was all very straight forward with David announcing the hatch was much further away from the edge of the landing than he realised so it wasn't a problem, and he bravely climbed the ladder :-)

Investigations over, they both concluded that recent high winds have dislodged a roof tile so the services of a roofer shall be required.  Still, it's a relief to know the cold water tank that's up there isn't leaking.  Well as far as they could tell.

After their endeavours they were rewarded with coffee and shortbread before Ele and Kenny headed off home.

Lola was completely underwhelmed by the whole situation and fell sound asleep on the foot stool.  She did stir a little while later to watch some of Crufts (her mum and sister were there) and was very happy to see a very handsome flat coated retriever called Baxer win the Gun Dog category and then take Best in Show.  Wagging tails all round :-)

Alan's support worker Aliyah had brought us an amazing lamb curry made by her mum (proper home cooked Indian food!) which was very fortuitous as I had planned to make curry tomorrow and had bought vegetable pakora and onion bhajis to have with it, so we had them tonight with Aliyah's mum's curry instead.  OMG it was good!

Jeez, we have eaten very well this weekend! Yesterday's delights :D   Thankfully there are no calories in any food eaten on a Saturday and Sunday.  That is the Law.

Remembering those little angels and their teacher who's lives were tragically cut short 26 years ago today at Dunblane Primary School.  Never forgotten.
