The Westbroek Windmill, Oud Zuilen

Beautiful weather for National Windmill Day!
Actually, it is a 2-day affair, so it should be called National Windmill Weekend.
I might go again tomorrow, but I will not get up at the crack of dawn.

'Oud Zuilen' sounds like 'Out Zaylun' but that 'ui' dipthong is problematic.

For anyone interested in what it might look like to live inside one --
Extra 1 = the old living room, now used as a kind of office
Extra 2 = 'master bedroom', what we call a 'bedstee' ('betstay'), literally a hole in the wall, but very cozy, and now too small for the much taller Dutch; you can see the front of it in Extra 1, on the right, with the curtains
Extra 3 = 'infant's cot' in the wall, which looks more like a cabinet
Extra 4 = upstairs 'bedroom', complete with bed warmer and shelf for potties
Extra 5 = clogs for the little ones
Extra 6 = clogs for the adults
Extra 7 = emergency buckets in case of fire, attached to the wall outside
The focus of the displays was the living quarters of the miller.  The rest of the ground floor looked like a typical workman's shed, with tools, workbenches, etc.

It has been so long since I've been to this part of Utrecht.  The last time was 20 years ago, when we used to have a friend who lived close to the nearby castle, that she could even look into its garden from her bedroom window, or so she said.  She said she had a child who died in infancy and we'd gone to the nearby cemetery, a quiet and absolutely beautiful memorial park, and searched in vain in the children's corner, but no sign of it.  She was some kind of woodland nymph who appeared and then disappeared... online.

Close to the castle is a fabulous Italian-themed restaurant, which we've both tried out.  Next time I come here, I will eat there again.  Not too far away from now, but the city of Utrecht, which borders on Oud Zuilen, is not just 'around the corner', although the province (of the same name) is.  There are always traffic jams on the A27 and A12... bah!  The A27 has long been due for improvement but nobody seems to know how to go about it, and several options have been discarded.

Back home in time for dinner, with some time left for post-processing before Eurovision began.  In fact, I brought my laptop downstairs so that I could continue while watching the show.  Looking back on it, I think that 2021 has been the only year where my favourites all appeared in the Top 5.  I will go back to following it online next time, as I used to do.  As for the rest, no MOOCking or housekeeping or errands today, and AW's cough is largely gone, and we're pleased with that, too.
