Orange Blossom Special

My friend Stuart has a home recording studio, which has recently been enhanced by the construction of a dedicated drum room. In other words, the little room off his second bedroom has been cleared out and soundproofed. Four inches of soundproof insulation behind a new wall and floor, topped off with thick carpet on the floor and acoustic foam on the wall. His neighbours are pretty tolerant, but I think a drummer going full chat in an uninsulated room might have strained even the best neighbourly relations! All finished off in a coat of bright orange paint and a myriad of cables heading back to the main desk in the other room. That room will be the next to be tackled, mainly from the point of view of tidying up all the cables that currently snake across the floor.
It always amazes me that what he is able to do in the back bedroom of a terraced house is comparable with what would have required something the size of Abbey Road in pre-digital technology days. I have been privileged to listen to many a song progress from a simple guide vocal/guitar track to a fully mixed and mastered, multi track masterpiece.
If you want to hear for yourself, and have access to Spotify, just search for God Damn Smile and listen to what can be achieved in a bedroom by five talented musicians and some state of the art digital recording equipment.
