A view from Jeanneb

Saturday at the Cathedral.

A day of contrasts and very different from our normal Saturday afternoons.

We were singing with the ATN Community Choir in the Broadway shopping mall in Bradford at 2.00 pm. Friend A’s husband kindly gave us a lift down into the city. It was bright and sunny though a bit cooler but the glass roof inside the mall made it like an oven! We sang 8 songs from our repertoire and helped draw attention to a group collecting for Bradford Night Stop. (A charity providing accommodation for homeless young people)

We were singing for just half an hour which was perfect timing for us to then go across the road to Bradford Cathedral for a service of Ordination of our Curate Anna at 3.00 pm. It’s always good to have a reason to visit.

The Cathedral is a lovely building but sadly fairly hidden away. It was only really visible across the city when the shopping mall we’d just left was the infamous ‘Big Hole’ which remained for many years before the Broadway mall was built.

It was a lovely service with very different music of course. It was pointed out to us that the photos which lined the transept on both sides represented people and worship in different communities within the city. I thought they looked great not least the one of our Bishop Toby who apologised for being seen wearing sandals and socks!

We stopped for a cuppa afterwards. The clergy had gone outside for a group photo and came hurtling back in as there was a sudden, humongous downpour.

We left when it stopped and went back to M & S for a bit of a shop before catching the bus home. Like two little kids we shot upstairs on the bus for the front seats.  Sunny all the way home with good views of the city but we could see a big black cloud hovering.
It started to rain as we got off in the village but we got home before it became heavy. Phew!

The sun is out again now, as I said a day of contrasts but fun.
