Marjorie's ramblings

Another old friend

This is Penelope. We shared a flat in Newcastle when we were at University, back in the early 1970s. We have kept in touch since, mainly with Christmas cards and letters, but in recent years we have met occasionally when she ventures to the far north on walking holidays.

She is staying near Bamburgh with 5 friends and her brother, Adrian (see extra). We met at Cragside. Most of the party had never been, so they went to see the inside of the house. Penelope and I walked around the estate.

We were given a map. There were signposts. Many signposts were to places that were not shown on the map. We were not impressed to put it mildly.

Penelope's step counter said that we did 5.5 miles (and it often registers on the low side). We certainly felt as though we had done 6. Not many people were walking away from the house and formal gardens.

We talked all the time and had a great time. Sadly there were no views to speak of, just lots and lots of rhododendrons that flowered earlier in the year..........

It was very hot back at home. I think we will have to retreat into the spare bedroom tomorrow and on Tuesday when the highest temperatures reach here.

I decided not to watch the political debate tonight. I think I've got the drift and I don't have a vote so I can't feel invested in the result. It's very disheartening.
