Little Ben

There was an optional lunchtime tour of the 'Broadcast 100' exhibition at the National Science and Media Museum for symposium delegates today. I was one of the lucky few to bag a ticket.

Amongst the exhibits is a small model of Big Ben. This was used in the early days of television as a studio stand-in for Big Ben: it was so much easier to film a model indoors than the real thing at Westminster. However, apart from moveable hands, this 'in vision' clock is not functional.  Whenever it was about to be shown on the screen, the floor manager had to turn the hands to the 'right' time. The time was established on the basis of conversations with other staff, so not always terribly accurate!

Bruce and I left Bradford mid-afternoon, returning via York so that we could travel on an LNER train for the longer leg of the journey. (Coming by the shorter route via Leeds would have meant joining a CrossCountry service. LNER is so much nicer.)

Mr hazelh welcomed me home with a lovely salmon supper and flowers on the kitchen table. Then we watched the final episode of Shetland and Monday's Only connect.

Exercise today: small amount of walking (8124 steps).
