A view from Jeanneb

Glorious colours.

Another beautiful blue sky day from the start but pretty chilly out of the sun.

We had our first church coffee morning for nearly two years thus morning.  Always the third Saturday in the month and whilst some older regulars didn’t appear, as they haven’t at church, we were pleasantly surprised at how many people did including some past helpers. We had to put out extra tables. Lots of bakes and produce for sale much of which was sold.

Afterwards Chris wanted to pop down to Lidl in Bingley so I went on a little blip wander. I remembered that this tree is always one for good early colour in the Autumn and thought it looked particularly good today against the intense blue sky.

In the background is Bingley’s Butter Cross and Market Hall.
The butter cross, seen on the left, is likely to date back to the 13th century when Bingley’s market charter was granted by King John in 1212.
The market hall on show was completed in the mid 18th century. There are also some stocks just in front of the butter cross.

It is relatively recent  that they were returned to the new market place in the centre of the town, for many years they were hidden away in the Prince of Wales Park at the top of the town. The Civic trust had them restored to the centre of town in 1984. I think they deserve to be there.
