Gather

Not quite flowers but plenty of green foliage plants at ‘Gather’ in Batheaston this lunchtime.

A wet day alternating between wet and very wet with the occasional sunny spell. John and Jude got off to Nursery and work in dry weather, half an hour later Eda and mummy hit a very heavy shower on their cycle to school. I had to dry out her book bag and books when Grace came back with them.
Eda has had to wear something colourful today with contributions made to World Mental Health Day. She wore blue and yellow and took her new hoodie. Now she is back home on half term holiday.

Last nights show was fabulous but oh, so sad. The man playing Mack was excellent as of course was Grace as Mabel though after Evita at Easter I have told her she has to play someone who doesn’t die at the end next!
Eda's dance teacher played Lottie and her tap scenes were spectacular, I really liked the guy who played ‘Fatty Arbuckle’ too and it’s a beautiful small theatre.
We took the bus in but just missed the one back so walked. It was a lovely evening, warm and starry, which I thought was quite unusual.
Grace wanted a quiet day to get some rest and in particular rest her voice so other plans were shelved. Chris and I took the car down to Larkhall and parked there taking the bus into town for a few errands for her. It started to pour again as we got off the bus so headed straight for a coffee. The first place we came to was the Bath Bun Tea Shoppe. Had a nice coffee but no Bath buns on the menu. (They are not the same as Sally Lunns - they are a yeast dough but contain spices and fruit.)There was a recipe on the wall and information about their origin. Invented by a Dr Oliver in the early 18th century who also invented the Bath Oliver, a type of water biscuit both for patients at his hospital.

Chores done we returned to the car in Larkhall on the bus and drove on to Batheaston. On a better day we would have walked but having done over 20,000 steps yesterday and walked up the hill 4 times this week I’m not feeling too guilty.

Lunch in Gather, top right, Chris and I came here before on recommendation only to find it closed due to staff  issues during the Covid period. So pleased we made it at last. We had a very nice, gluten loaded lunch and I had an apple, turmeric and ginger juice which had a great kick. We will be back hopefully with Grace next time.

Amazingly the sun was out when we came out se we had a walk around the Riverside garden where we went for Jude’s forest school last Monday. Some lovely Dahlias still flowering and surviving the rain.

Waiting for Jude to come home now, she will also have a break from nursery next week too.

(I have erased a couple, of children's faces from the centre table )

In the top left of the collage is the window at the Bath Bun Tea Shoppe with lots of floral china and a signed picture of Mary Berry!
