Winter wonderland

After a wonderful time last night stargazing, when we saw several satellites and meteorites in an amazingly clear sky, we woke this morning to a winter wonderland! The whole area was under a thick coat of frost and the mist was down to the ground. The car thermometer registered -5 degrees, but I suspect it might have been colder. After a huge car window scraping session we set off for the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig. The landscape was white, with thousands of trees, many of them birch, white with frost. The centre is involved in conservation and captive breeding and among many other animals we saw wildcats, snow leopards, snow monkeys, polar bears and Przewalski's horses. We spent several hours there - a wonderful place, but the sun disappeared into the clouds quite early on so the ground stayed white all day. More frost tonight, no doubt!

Certainly a lot colder here than it is at home on Scotland's mild west coast!

Quote of the Day:

If indeed there are any real monsters left, we only have to look in the mirror to find them.  Richard Ellis - Monsters of the Sea.
