Blue and Green

"Blue up in the sky
And mother nature's green
I often wonder why
Just taking in this country scene
Driving through the land
Understanding blue and green."
Van Morrison, Blue and Green.

We had a freeze overnight Monday night, one of the latest I can remember in springtime. I moved my tender plants indoors for the night to protect them. We didn't have frost in our yard Tuesday morning, but several neighbors did.

It was odd to see layers of white frost crystals this time of year, and at the fruit farm up the road, they had the misting system set up, trying to save the strawberry plants. The field was full of ice: sparkling, shining crystals on every green blade.

From there, I paid a short visit to one of my favorite local ponds. It's the one you saw most recently here (April 30's blip, The Boat of the Loved Lost Soul).

On this particular day, there were no moody clouds, no evocative boat, no morning star sunrise, no horses on the hillside offering sage photographic advice (or insults, for that matter).

No, none of those things. Just the morning quiet. And me and my camera. And a bit of mist rising in the morning light. And a mix of blue and green.

The soundtrack: perhaps you guessed it by now, Van Morrison, Blue and Green.
