Sunday Mission ...

... failed.

But we still had a fantastic day!

As I mentioned the other day R had read about a rare bird that's visiting a certain reservoir nearby.  We went looking for it on Friday evening without any luck seeing this bird ... which I will not name until we actually spot it!  And we went back today on our way to Graver Arboretum ... and still no luck spotting them.  So we may try one more time in the next couple of days.  It'll either be a case of third time's a charm or three strikes you're out!  We shall see ...

The bottom two pictures were taken at this reservoir.  The woman pictured was another birder looking for this rare bird.  She didn't spot it either.  There were lots of other water fowl at this reservoir ... including killdeer (bottom right), blue-winged teal ducks (first for me), bufflehead ducks, mallard ducks and Canada geese.

After leaving the reservoir we drove to Graver Arboretum for our walk.  We were hoping to see some wood frogs and we weren't disappointed on that front.  There weren't a lot but enough to make me happy.  And whilst there we also saw some butterflies!  YAY!  These weren't the first we had seen this year as we saw one at Jacobsburg State park last Wednesday that I forgot to mention.  My picture isn't the greatest but I had to record one of our first butterfly sightings for the year ... I wasn't in the best position for a good photo.  This lovely butterfly is a mourning cloak ... and is usually one of the first to be seen in the Spring.

We were back home in plenty of time for supper and spent the rest of the day at home.  It was a lovely day all around.  Please have a look at this full screen.
