Out of Reach

.... of the slugs!

Iris suaveolens.  I have a big clump of it in the raised bed but the flowers have been massacred by slugs and big footed seagulls :-(   These in a raised trough have so far escaped.

A busy day although a fair chunk of the business revolved around the Tuesday singing group.  A recovery plan is in place and later both a little calm restored and some light shed by a friend on why things blew up the way they did.  Someone who used to be in the group fanning the flames.  Thanks to the friend of the group who helped with the missing piece of the jigsaw of understanding.

The dogs had a long walk along the river path late afternoon, sandwiched between two sessions building my new, super size raised bed in the front garden.  With railway sleepers unavailable I've used cut down polystyrene boxes to create the shape and am coating them with hypertufa, a mix of sand, cement and soilless compost.  I've used this in the past to make troughs with individual boxes.  This bed has used quite a lot of cut down boxes.  Four half barrow loads of mixture so far, the job almost done.  I'll post a pic in due course.
