Fabulous day ..

but not a very auspicious start for our village Gala. After at least 4 weeks of no rain it started half an hour before we had to walk to the top of the village for the Gala parade. Not cold but we needed our umbrellas and Jude, bless her, walked all the way carrying hers.

By the time the parade set off it had all but stopped and we had a wonderful family afternoon. Grace was invited to be part of the parade as an ex Gala Queen attendant as it is 50 years since  the first Village Gala. She was 6 at the time in 1990 and was wearing the dress that you can see Eda wearing here.

The girls went on the bouncy castle, the roundabout, Diddy Dennis the fire engine, hooked a duck and got lollies they didn’t really want and won unicorns on the tombola that Grace didn’t want and of course had ice creams!

Back home we had a BBQ and the best part of the day. Whilst in the garden we had a belated flyover from a Lancaster bomber. It was right over Eda’s and my head at one point. Wonderful. Didn’t have my camera or phone but waved and cheered so much I wouldn’t have wanted to waste my time taking pictures anyway.
Son Alex (in the shot with Grace and the girls) had gone back to the park and he took some excellent videos. As he said you’ve got to have the sound! (One of his shots in the extra plus one of Grace’s of the girls in Diddy Denis the fire engine - Jude loved it and was all for getting into the real police car on the field!)
