Marjorie's ramblings

Helianthus tuberosus

We have grown these beautiful flowers for many years now, but I do not remember hearing that it is also called sunroot, sunchoke, wild sunflower or earth apple. I had no idea that it is the Jerusalem artichoke!

The tubers are edible, both raw and cooked.

I slept very well last night and woke with little pain. I've had a much better day and ventured to walk to the pub and back this afternoon. After a mizzly morning, the sun emerged for about half and hour.

Apple pressing in the village is at the end of September, but our apples show no sign of being ready by then. We have very few windfalls yet.

We had a lovely phone call from Lynn and Steven in Yorkshire and have made provisional plans for a visit in October. Angela and Ellen from Sunderland have also booked a date. These visits we can look forward to.
