Moors Valley

Moors Valley is a country park in East Dorset and it is a special place for us. Twenty years ago we joined many of our daughter's friends to plant a woodland. We try to visit fairly often but today was the first time we have been for three years and we found a huge change. The almost 1,000 saplings that we planted all that time ago are now full sized trees. What was then an open field with little trees with their plastic protectors is now quite dense woodland with full grown silver birches, oaks and alders. Underfoot thick grass and small shrubs have grown so the woodland is practically impenetrable. We feel very moved to think that we have been involved in creating this woodland.

In an open glade I found these grasses.

Moors Valley is a great place to visit. Near the visitor centre there are lots of attractions for children, a golf course and a model railway, but in the further reaches of the park where we go for our woodland it is quiet. The countryside and the environment are very important in the park.
