A time for everything

Snowy evening at the cinema

Friday
A quiet day today, just going out in the afternoon to the sports centre for a swim. When we first walked in, each lane was occupied, but fortunately by the time I had changed, there was a free lane available. We had an early dinner, so we could get out to a 7pm movie. It had started snowing around 5 pm, but it was quite a fine snow, and barely sticking to the roads, though it was snowing quite steadily as we drove down to Mariemont, so we weren’t sure what we were going to come out to. However, by then, the snow had finished, leaving a very pretty coating on rooves, trees and bushes. The movie was The Boys in the Boat, a 1930s-set story centered on the University of Washington’s rowing team, from their Depression-era beginnings to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Both Roger and I had read the book some months ago - I read it for Book Club, where it met with high approval, and the film did not disappoint.
