Spider Amaryllis

This was a delightful surprise to find on our return home.
This amaryllis had just come into bud as we were leaving to go away for 12 days so we were a bit worried it would be over or dead when we got back. Chris found the watering bulb and we hoped for the best.

I bought him this unusual variety for Christmas directly from the RHS. It came in a paper bag with no instructions. I gave it to him for Christmas (a few weeks later)  and with no instruction we tried it in the grass receptacle we’d grown one in successfully the previous year (from M&S).
Nothing happened. It wasn’t cheap so I contacted RHS and sent a photo. They emailed me back to say they didn’t recommend growing it that way (they didn’t suggest anything) and it looked dead so ‘tough’! effectively. We decided just to plant it and wait and see. Several months later it produced buds and here are the ‘interesting’ flowers despite the lack of help from the RHS! It had to be my blip.

It’s on the dining table so a bit out of direct sun and you can see the picture we have on the wall of the wonderful Coigach mountains above Achnahaird beach - ‘our view’ - from our recent holiday.

Other than this it’s been washing, singing, shopping and a quick visit to my friend whose birthday it was yesterday.
