The Goosles: Through Thick & Thin

Better in large ("L").

Goosles stick together.

This is Mr. (further away) and Mrs. (closer) and their two goslings: the injured one is the one at the right here, but it is looking much less unwell which is a great relief. Its neck is still very swollen, but its head is looking better and it is behaving pretty much normally: it is grazing, preening, and sticking with the others... I hope that this means that it'll just recover without intervention! I'll keep checking on its progress; Ann (the rescuer) checked in on it this morning and was similarly pleased by its progress, but she's ready to respond should that change.

This was the Goosles reacting to a dog with a stick: Mr. and Mrs. called the alarm and they all rushed to the water's edge. They remained there (grazing) while the dog was in eye-shot, and it started approaching so they entered the water: I took this photo as the dog passed behind me, as all of their eyes passed over me to keep track of its movement.

I checked in on the duckings on Long Pond, and there are still 9 of them: they're very lively and active, and I enjoyed watching and photographing them. One was particularly hyper (when all of the others were resting) and when it tried to join them on the sand bags, its busy activity and drying/preening irritated its siblings which started pushing it away so that they could get on with snoozing undisturbed. Funny interactions...

p.s. This was the goslings on the 3rd July!
p.p.s. Last year my picture was a coot feeding a cootling. --->
