A calamity
in our city....not how we'd
like to start our day!

I was up at 6 but it's a grey day. I dawdled. I'm not enthused to head outside with my camera. I'm really a fair-weather blipper at heart.

I headed down the hill just before 7 to discover a huge plume of thick black smoke was fanning out over the city. It was coming from somewhere on the south side of the river across from the airport. I took my route to Tranquille, then turned into the Cpt. Jenn Casey memorial to take my photos.

The source of the fire is the landfill above Mission Flats Road. The fire is in the huge pile of recycled appliances. The fire department has asked everyone to 'shelter in place', which means stay inside and keep windows closed. We might assume the smoke is toxic due to the source of the fire. Schools have been asked to call students inside as soon as the students arrive to the building. The fire department expects to be on the scene for many hours today.

I will have a couple of errands this morning, then we should be off onto the highway before noon. I'm looking forward to dining with my brother this evening.
