Back on the Beach

When I arrived at the seaside tonight it was late already, shortly before sunset. It had been a long travelling day on five different trains. Once you have crossed the Rhine near Duisburg, you are inclined to think that the last stage will go easy. But no. Somewhere in the south of Holland, an airport connects with the train. And from there our front part of the train became occupied with a very loud group of passengers.

They turned out to be “Christian missionaries” on their way back home. Against our will we were forced to hear their loud report on the living conditions of Roma’s in Eastern Rumenia. Children barely clothed living on garbage dumps. “How good that we as missionaries were there to help them”, one man shouted to a German speaking Sudanese, who was on his way to the funeral of a relative. The man nodded.

I tried to focus on reading my book on “Cutting through spiritual materialism”. It also questions the hidden motives - urge, agitation, agression and ambition of most soul winning activists. Willemien tried to escape in slumber. But we had to follow the goodies report until finally they got out. I was glad that these Roma children got help for a week, thank to the compassion of volunteers with good intentions. And I was glad to return into my reading, without the need to search for Oropax.

The loudness and crowdedness didn’t stop until we arrived at our destination, where we were so happy to embrace Mischa again. She appeared to have had a rather fine time and brought us some groceries for breakfast tomorrow morning, so dear! And then, after the pizza I took my bike up into the dunes and there she was in all her evening splendour. Such a refreshing experience, to come to myself again and witness this wonderful sunset!
