Pennine Yorkshire Field Art

A glorious day. We chose to explore a bit of Pennine Yorkshire as seen on Le Grande Depart stage 2.

We have seen lots of preparations in towns like Knaresborough, Silsden, Addingham, Ilkely, Otley, Harrogate and Hawes plus lots of great villages in Wharfedale, Wensleydale and Swaledale fantastically decorated for Yorkshire's venture as part of the Tour de France. As I sometimes walk over Oxenhope way I have also seen some of the field art that appeared for Le Tour but we hadn't really ventured beyond this on the stage two route.

Here is Lower Laithe Reservoir just below Stanbury. The Tour crossed the end of this on its way from Haworth to Oxenhope. We went up on to Penistone Hill for the view as this was the first time I had seen the location of 'One Man and His Dog' much publicised in the media. You can also see quite clearly the patterns created by clever cutting of the grass just below the reservoir.

We continued on through Hebden Bridge and had lunch above Ripponden (Côte de Greetland!) and followed the route to Holmfirth and up Holme Moss.
Lots of decorations still in place. We passed the longest continuous bunting at Crag Vale and of course the road up Holme Moss is extensively covered in writing.

The view at the top was amazing and quite unfamiliar to me but we could see the Emily Moor transmitter and the whole of the Holme Valley.
