Rock Art

Today was the recce for the Archaeology walk for the October Festival. Phil Bowyer, our expert for the day, is a true enthusiast for his subject. People are going to love having him there with his knowledge and his excellent way of interacting and teaching.

We spent ages on the first 1 mile of the walk because that is over the newly discovered pre-historic burial ground on Goatstones Farm. Then we saw the four poster stone circle, the double sided Standing Stone rigg and both unenclosed and enclosed settlements. There was so much to see and hear about. I thought we would never get home!

Here Phil is explaining to Roy and Lil how to work out whether a cup marking is rock art of erosion. Facinating stuff.

We met my friend Sue Lee, whose husband farms Goatstones. Later Alastair Lee came out on his quad bike for a chat. I visited Michael and Harry at Great Lonbrough farm too.

There's a bit of sheep herding going on in the background of the picture too.
