Threatened with extinction?

No, not the Union, not just yet ... This is the Victorian pier of Dunoon, which has been closed off for a couple of years now, disused and unsafe. I took it from the deck of the Ali Cat, one of the absurd boats that replaced the big, seaworthy ships that used to serve Dunoon town centre with a car and pedestrian link to the rail head at Gourock. I noted that even on a calm day such as today, it was hard to hold the camera still because of the alarming capacity of the catamaran to rotate sporadically on its axis given the slightest ripple in the water.

I continue to hope that this lovely pier will in time be restored and available for use by ships like PS Waverley, even if we never have a decent town centre ferry again.
