Dinan from the Ramparts

This afternoon our friends took us on an excursion from Rennes to Dinan, a town of about 11,000 some 40 km to the northwest in Brittany.

Dinan is rated as a town "of art and history." The upper town is circled by high ramparts, from which I took this view of the lower town. The buildings are consistently picturesque, mostly in grey stone, but a fair number have half-timbered construction. Altogether a wonderful outing.

In the evening we had dinner back in Rennes at a superb restaurant specializing in crêpes and galettes, followed at home by the second half of an exciting Champions League game between Arsenal (2) and Barcelona (1).
