Bowood 2015 #29 (Sunday 14th June)

Having got to grips with the Coolpix superzoom recently, I was turning my attention to the Nikon Lumix 100, and had just solved the problems of the white balance defaults and the close focusing settings, so I retook some of the pictures from my previous visit to Bowood Gardens more successfully. This rose bloom caught my attention with its cream streaks and textures, very slightly past its peak making it all the more suitable for scrutiny.

I had a close look at a Japanese walnut tree which bore the inscription "Juglans Sieboldiana - Planted October 25th 1972 by The Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne, The Earl and Countess of Shelburne, The Viscount Calne and Calstone, The Ladies Arabella and Rachel Fitzmaurice, Messrs David Cleverly, Derek Duck and George Harrison". I did wonder whether the last named was the former Beatle, a renowned horticulturalist, but it turned out that the last three names were of members of staff, and the occasion was the handing over of the Estate to the Earl of Shelburne, now 9th Marquis of Lansdowne.

I also used the Coolpix superzoom to capture some details on Bowood House's bell tower at 2000 mm, and had a look at the lambs in Tractor Ted's Little Farm on the way out.
