A view from Jeanneb

Wildness in the city.

This is not a return visit to Harlow Carr but a stretch of Horfield Common in Bristol. You can see the busy
Gloucester Road (A38) in the background and I thought it was lovely to see this spread of wild flowers in the city.

Leaving the car behind today we explored Horfield in a different way by deviating from the main road (above) to survey some of the short stretches of path in two Big Pathwatch squares. (Yes I think I am addicted!) Our route criss crossed the main road and took us through estates and across stretches of common land that we haven't seen before. There were less than 1km of paths in each square but we ended up walking 4.5 miles before we stopped for lunch!

I took Chris to the Lebanese Juice Bar I visited with Grace back in June. https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2053977998993918346
We had a cold Mezza between us and it was delicious.

One of the paths took us around the main part of Horfiled Common further down. I have been to the houses leading to it as Grace's brother and sister in law live in one but not walked the whole length of the road. I spotted the blue plaque on one and saw it was the home of Archibald Leach - yes Cary Grant was born here in Horfield, Bristol. I knew that but had forgotten where.

It has been another lovely day and positively hot this afternoon. We took the bus down into the city centre to just enjoy the waterfront around the floating harbour but not before I had a quick peak in my favourite 'arty' shops in Gloucester Rd. There are always surprises in the shops and even on the pavements here!

There were several boats moored flying the Welsh flag and one with a Welsh and the Kiwi silver fern, I wonder why?
