Messing About on the Orne

Miss L and Mr R went straight into the pool this morning. They're a couple of water babies!! Miss E and Mr L took themselves off upstairs no doubt to watch each other play computer games. Yawn!
Mr M, Mrs C and I went to the supermarket and finally bought some food! We threw things into the trolley with abandon and now have cupboards and a freezer rammed with treats - biscuits, chicken flavoured crisps, Oreo cookies, rice pudding, cheese, pate, brioche, Snickers ice-creams, beer and lemonade.
We also have more sausages and Meatabix for the barbecue.
And a bit of fruit to cancel out all the treats!!
After lunch we headed to the luge which is only about a mile from our house. We'd read about it last night and been assured that our pleasure was guaranteed!
I can confirm that it was pleasurable!!
It was amazing!!!
Miss E was a bit disappointed that she wasn't tall enough to go by herself like Mr L but sweetly she said she wanted to go with me.
We sit in a car attached to a monorail and it chugs up to top of the hill automatically. At the top of the hill Miss E took control and we thundered down to the bottom of the field without braking once!! It was so fast and bendy and I genuinely feared for my life at one point as Miss E took a right angle bend at top speed. It was round a tree and I may have screamed!!! Miss E loved it!
There was a bouncy castle at the bottom which all the kids went on after we'd all been down. The grown ups sat in the sun and watched. Lovely! The Little Misses were giddy to be allowed Orangina - mean Mummy doesn't usually let them have fizzy drinks!
From there we walked down to the river. It was full of pedalos, canoes, kayaks and boats. We walked up to the boat rental place and decided to have a go.
The D's took out an electric boat (see extra) but us K's are made of sterner stuff and we went for a pedalo.
Huge mistake!!
Neither of the Little Misses could reach the pedals so there was some seating re-arrangements which miraculously didn't end up with anyone going into the river! As Mr K and I pedalled there was a hideous screeching, grinding noise. Which somewhat spoilt the tranquility of the beautiful river.
I felt like everyone was staring at us and wishing we'd take our screechy pedalo off somewhere else. It was hideous!!
In the end we went back early to put ourselves - and everybody else - out of our misery.
When we returned it and told the man about the noise we were met with a smile, a French shrug and the information that we should have just splashed water on the pedals.
We'll know for next time!!
Another fantastic barbecue from Mr M tonight. This time there was ketchup and rolls, and the Meatabix weren't overcooked!
